Funeral Mass Held For Catholic Priest, Student Killed In Tulsa Wreck

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Funeral services for a Catholic priest and a seminary student killed in a Tulsa car wreck earlier this month were held Tuesday, August 30, 2011.

Father Jorge Alvardo and Stanley Kariuki died Sunday, August 21, 2011 when their car was hit by a woman police say was fleeing from gunshots in north Tulsa.

Alvardo had been ordained six weeks before his death, according to the Diocese of Tulsa.  He was a native of Mexico who served as an associate pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Tulsa.

Kariuki, a native of Kenya, began studying at the Diocese of Tulsa in May.

Both men were 32.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Cathedral at 8th and Boulder.
