Javon Harris Named National Defensive Player Of Week

NORMAN, Oklahoma – Oklahoma free safety Javon Harris has been named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week.

Harris caught the eyes of many after an impressive game against Florida State in which the Lawton native tallied two interceptions and three unassisted tackles and one pass break up.

He returned his first interceptions 69 yards that eventually set up an Oklahoma field goal, while his second interception, with just over five minutes in the game helped the Sooners to the 23-13 victory over the Seminoles.

The player of the week distinction adds Harris to the watch list for the 2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy that is annually presented to the best defensive player in college football.

Each week during the 2011 season the FWAA All-America Committee will select a national defensive player of the week from nominations made by the 11 Division I Bowl Subdivision Conferences and major independents.

Five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy will be announced on Nov. 17 and the 2011 trophy will be awarded on Dec. 12 in Charlotte, N. C.
