ROGERS COUNTY, Oklahoma -- An 83-year-old Inola man was injured in a single-car collision on a Rogers County Highway Saturday. Harold Lowther lost control of his car as he drove northbound on State Highway 88 at East West 52 just before 2 p.m.

Lowther had pulled his Acura over to the right due to oncoming traffic and a narrow road, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The road was washed out on the shoulder, and the driver overcorrected. The car went left then to the right again, striking a concrete barrier wall. Lowther was pinned in the car for about 40 minutes before being freed by the Tiawah Fire Department.

There were two passengers in the car, a 16-year-old Collinsville girl and a male whose age was not known. The male passenger was treated and released at a Claremore hospital, and the teen refused treatment at the scene.

Lowther was taken by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital where he was admitted in stable condition with internal injuries.

The cause of the collision is listed as driver's abilities impaired by age.
