TU Football Star Damaris Johnson Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement Charge

A University of Tulsa star football player and his girlfriend have each pleaded guilty to a felony count of embezzlement.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- A University of Tulsa star football player and his girlfriend have each pleaded guilty to a felony count of embezzlement.

Damaris Johnson and Chamon Jones each received a one-year deferred sentence.  They must each pay a $500 fine and court costs, and must each perform 80 hours of community service.   They each must also pay $250 to the victims' compensation fund.

If they stay out of trouble for one year, the charge against each of them will be dismissed.

The couple pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $2,600 in merchandise from a store inside Tulsa's Promenade Mall in late August.

Johnson was indefinitely suspended from the Golden Hurricane in late August.

TU head football coach Bill Blankenship told News On 6 recently that it's highly unlikely Johnson would ever return to the team.
