EDMOND, Oklahoma – A copper thief steals more than $4,000 in copper wiring from a US Cellular tower site in Edmond, and causes another $14,000 in damage.

On Monday, October 17, someone pried apart two air conditioning units outside a building at the tower located on E. Sorghum Mill Road near N. Post Road. Edmond Police say the thief ripped out all the copper wiring and destroyed the units. The thief also cut copper wire from the exterior of the building.

The thief then crawled into the building through one of the air conditioning units, and continued the copper crime spree inside. Police say wire was cut from the metal rafters.

The thief apparently hurt himself while stealing the copper. Police discovered blood spots on the wall.

In all, about $4,500 worth of copper was stolen but it will cost the company $14,000 to repair all the damage done by the thief.
