October 20-21, Week 8

Teams on the outside of the playoff picture looking in are running out of time. There are three games left in the regular season. Now is the time for schools to make a push for one of the four available postseason spots in each district. Here is a look at the Top 5 matchups from around the Tulsa area:

5. Memorial Chargers 3-3 (1-2) at Bishop Kelley Comets 4-2 (2-1), Friday

Bishop Kelley hosts Memorial at just the right time. The Chargers have been overmatched much of the year and the Comets need a win in a big way. The Chargers lost to Booker T. Washington (the team Kelley just beat) and barely beat out Hale, 47-42. Kelley crushed Hale by 30 points. The math suggests that the Comets are about to improve to 3-1 in district play in their final home game of the year.

4. Pryor Tigers 6-1 (4-0) at Coweta Tigers 4-3 (3-1), Thursday

Pryor hasn't lost since the opening week of the season. Coweta is one score away from being undefeated in district competition. The two Tigers tangle Thursday night with eyes on a district title. Like Coweta, both East Central and Central have one district loss apiece. If Pryor falls on the road this week, there could be a bunch of teams with one loss in district play heading into the home stretch.

3. Chelsea Dragons 7-0 (4-0) at Lincoln Christian Bulldogs 6-1 (3-1), Thursday

The meat of the schedule is almost over the Lincoln Christian. The Bulldogs face their third straight undefeated team this week when Chelsea comes to Dennis Byrd Stadium. The Dragons have only allowed double-digit points three times this season and have scored 30+ points five times. A loss on Thursday, and Lincoln's chances at a district title will be all-but-over.

2. Wagoner Bulldogs 7-0 (4-0) at Catoosa Indians 7-0 (4-0), Friday

Wagoner is loaded again. Offense is no problem. The Bulldogs have scored 104 points in the past two weeks. This Friday they will have to find a way to stop the talented rushing duo of Cole Scheulen and Levi Browning. Those two guys have combined to rush for 2,112 yards and 32 touchdowns this season. They are two of the top three rushers in 4A and have led Catoosa to blowout wins over everyone on the schedule so far. Wagoner has blowout wins over Jay, Miami, Vinita, Grove and Oologah on its resume. This game could be a classic. Get there early and don't leave your seat.

1. Verdigris Cardinals 7-0 (4-0) at Metro Christian Patriots 7-0 (3-0), Thursday

Andrew Hearon is 3A's top passer. The MCA senior has thrown for 1,617 yards and 22 touchdowns this season for the Patriots. Only Jerame Littell (Stillwater, 6A) has thrown more TD passes, with 24. Hearon's the main reason why MCA is unbeaten. Verdigris has allowed 21 points or fewer in every game but two this season. They are scoring 47 points per game themselves. Barring an unexpected upset in the final two weeks of the season, the winner of this game wins the district title.

JUST MISSED THE CUT:

Southmoore SaberCats 3-4 (2-2) at Jenks Trojans 6-1 (4-0)

Depew Hornets 5-2 (5-1) at Summit Christian Eagles 3-4 (3-3)

Union Redskins 6-1 (3-1) at Bartlesville Bruins 2-5 (1-2)

Skiatook Bulldogs 3-3 (1-2) at Collinsville Cardinals 2-4 (1-2)
