MUSTANG, Oklahoma – Even though he has never played a single down on the field, Joey Kinney is a football expert.

"I was mainly raised around football," Kinney said. "My whole family is football. I love it, it's my passion."

Joey Kinney is in a wheelchair and has never been able to play the game he loves, but that doesn't mean he isn't a valuable part of the team.

When he moved to Mustang for his senior year of high school, one of the first things he did was join the football team.

Mustang coach Ty Prestidge describes Kinney's personality is contagious, and it's easy to see why.

Even though Mustang is 1-6 so far this year, Kinney always puts the team first and encourages others to do the same.

"I just keep them upbeat and don't let them get down," Kinney said. "If they throw their stuff on the ground, I'm like, ‘No, you don't do that. We're a team. We don't stop fighting until the last whistle blows.'"

Not surprisingly, teammates describe Kinney as the heart and soul of the team. He is everything you can ask for from a dedicated player, and never misses a single practice or game.

He said he hopes his dedication and love for the game can be an example to others.

"God put me here for a reason," Kinney said. "Just for all those kids that want to play football that are in wheelchairs like I am, don't stop. Keep succeeding at what you want to do."
