Chill in the Air & Rain in Our Bucket
I don't know about you, but it was hard to pull myself out of bed this morning with the gloomy skies and soothing rainfall. Not everyone saw the soaking rain they needed, but many places are seeing over an inch in the rain gauge.
The map to your right shows the 24-hour rainfall across Oklahoma as 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Measurable rainfall was hard to come by north of Tulsa, but the I-40 corridor was doused with more than an inch of cool rain. Although this is still a meager amount compared to what is needed to break the drought, it will whittle it back a notch.
The return of dramatically cooler air sent us all back to find that jacket. Believe it or not, several inches of SNOW fell across the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles earlier today. How about that?! That accumulation will be quick to disappear as high pressure returns allowing for sunshine and a nice warm-up by the weekend.
Speaking of which, there are many Halloween festivities along with the Tulsa Run taking place this weekend… and the forecast is anything but grim. Clear skies, light winds, and mild day-time temperatures will be the rule through the end of the month. However, if you are still trying to protect that garden, you will want to watch out for frost both tonight and Friday night as temperatures dip into the mid-30s. It may be cool for the Tulsa Run with 40-degree readings at the start of the races. However, that refreshing air will likely be welcomed by many runners.
A slow warm-up is expected into early next week. The month of November will begin on a very pleasant note with sunshine and mild temperatures. In fact, the long-range models do not indicate any major push of cold air into our region for some time. That, combined with relatively light winds for the upcoming week or two should give our trees time to display what colors they can before they start to shed their leaves. Ahhhh, isn't this autumn nice?
