NASCAR Star Jimmie Johnson, Muskogee-Born Wife Give Back To Oklahoma
MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -- A NASCAR star and his wife are divvying up more than a half million dollars to schools in an Oklahoma town.
NASCAR's Jimmie Johnson and his wife Chandra - a Muskogee native - announced recipients of their foundation's grants at Muskogee's Sadler Arts Academy Thursday.
Sadler says it'll use its $30,000 to create a fitness walk or "bridge" between the classrooms and playground. It'll have a racing theme - of course - and will include special learning stations like a sensory garden.
"I know for my wife to come back home and to really see first-hand how it impacts, you know, the community she grew up in. She has seen some old teachers, some friends that are now teachers. It's been a really neat day for her," Jimmie Johnson said.
Three other Muskogee schools also received grants - Harris Jobe Elementary, Alice Robertson Junior High and the Early Childhood Center.
