GUTHRIE, Oklahoma – The Guthrie Bluejays went through a chaotic week, but finished it Saturday with a 53-7 blowout win over Durant in the first round of the playoffs.

The OSSAA ruled senior Clint Simek ineligible and originally forced Guthrie to forfeit eight of its wins from this season. That would have knocked Guthrie out of the playoffs, but the school appealed the decision.

The OSSAA's board of directors upheld the appeal, allowing Guthrie to take part in the playoffs. However, Simek remained ineligible and the OSSAA also ruled head coach Rafe Watkins ineligible for eight games.

So with Watkins watching from the stands and Simek from the sidelines, the Bluejays were finally able to focus on football again Saturday. They made the most of it.

Things did not start well for Guthrie, with quarterback Bryan Dutton throwing an interception on the Bluejays' first drive that Durant returned for a touchdown to start the scoring. But Dutton and Guthrie took over from that point forward.

The Bluejays tied the game with a 45-yard touchdown run from Luke Davis on their next possession. Guthrie scored a total of 39 unanswered points in the first half to take a 39-7 lead into halftime, and Durant's offense still could not score in the second half.

The Bluejays finished with 53 consecutive points to coast into the second round, when they will host East Central next Friday.
