A downtown Tulsa icon is getting a facelift. U-haul is brightening the images on the revolving truck atop its downtown headquarters.

The last time this was done the truck had to be removed with a crane, and repainted. This time it's getting wrapped.

A crew from the Meeks Group is updating the imaging on the revolving U-haul truck downtown. In 1988, U-Haul came up with new imaging honoring each state, so the truck was taken down and re-painted.

It's great advertising, and it's an easily identifiable landmark.

"Oh you're the location with the U-haul truck on top of the building...absolutely," said Jack Smith.

The truck first went up here back in 1978. Tulsa was one of the first to get an actual truck on top, others had various trailers.

The development of the wrapping technique makes it possible to freshen the design without taking the truck off the roof.

The Meeks Group crew first had to cover the old design, and then apply the new vinyl wrapping. It goes on pretty easily, but because the truck is so high in the air and the crew is continually up and down the step ladder, it's a little cumbersome.

It took about 30 days to repaint the truck, the wrap just a couple of days.
