NORMAN, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma women's basketball team is setting aside rivalry and coming together to honor their fellow Oklahomans from Oklahoma State who were lost in a plane crash Thursday.

The Sooner women's squad will wear black bands on their jerseys to honor the memory of OSU head coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna starting at Saturday's game against New Mexico.

"We will obviously have a tribute to them, we will have black bands on our jerseys tomorrow when we play and we will do a season long tribute and a Bedlam tribute," said OU women's basketball head coach Sherri Coale.

Coach Coale said those tributes are still in the planning stages, but that they will definitely be added to the game night plans throughout the season.

"What Kurt and Miranda did is what we all do. You coach your kids and go jump on a plane to see a kid play and you're back in your bed that night. It makes you stop and think obviously about what we do, why we do it and how important it is—any yet how unimportant it is simultaneously," said Coale.

Meanwhile the men's team will honor those who were lost with a moment before tonight's game against Coppin State.

"He put the fun back in the Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State rivalry," said Coale with a smile. "He wore that neon jacket and we'd meet at half court and I would try to get something funny in and he would beat me to it ever time. He would bust on himself before I could even say anything. That self deprecating humor made it impossible not to like him."

"At the end of the day, what Kurt Budke was, is a really great guy," said Coale. "And I don't know how many of those there are out there."
