A Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held in remembrance of victims of violent crimes, according to Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris.

Victims and survivors of violent crime are invited to place an ornament on the tree in honor of a lost loved one. The ornaments will be hung during a dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 6 at the Buddy LaFortune Community Center, 5202 S. Hudson Avenue in Tulsa.

"This Christmas tree lighting ceremony is to remember and honor those lost to violent crime in our community," said Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris.

"The holidays often are difficult days and a painful reminder of the loss of loved ones to violent crime. It is our hope that survivors may find some small comfort in honoring loved ones and reaching out to others who have suffered a similar senseless loss," he said.

Victims and survivors across northeastern Oklahoma are invited to participate. Those who are unable to attend may mail an ornament to be placed on the tree which will be on display at the community center through the holiday season.

Mail ornaments to Gayla Stewart, Victim/Witness Coordinator in the U.S. Attorney's Office, 110 W. 7th Street, Suite 300, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74119. Please include the name of the person that the ornament is to honor.
