SAPULPA, Oklahoma -

A 31-year-old Sapulpa man is in the Creek County jail in connection with a Thanksgiving Day fatal shooting in the 100 block of Goodykoontz Avenue.

They identify the suspect as Bradley Flynt and the victim as his neighbor, Jennifer Crawford.

Police arrested Flynt shortly after the shooting on complaints of first degree murder and domestic assault and battery strangulation.

Sapulpa Police spent Thanksgiving morning investigating the city's first homicide since 2008. They say Flynt, shot and killed his neighbor just moments after he attacked his wife. The victim in this case was trying to be a good neighbor.

Court documents have Flynt and Stephanie Smith--a woman referred to at different times as both his girlfriend or wife--drinking, smoking marijuana, and taking Xanax and Lortab early Thanksgiving morning.

The two began arguing and, police say, Flynt grabbed Smith by her hair and caused her head to hit the concrete floor. He then tried to strangle Smith but she was able to get away and ran next door and begged for help.

Police say Flynt followed her carrying a .357 revolver. The couple's neighbor, Jennifer Crawford, was shot while standing behind her front door.

"He saw her as the door was either closing or opening, that's a little fuzzy on that detail whether it was actually being opened or being closed...he saw the victim at which time he pulled out the gun and shot,"

Police say Flynt first told officers that his wife made him drink and he didn't know what happened because he's bi-polar. He later told detectives that he was trying to "scare" or "bully" the women and that he just "snapped" and that "a woman lost her life over stupidity."

A woman answering the door at Smith's home on Monday says she is terribly shaken up and extremely sad over what happened to her neighbor. Police say the case is another example of how domestic violence can be dangerous or deadly.

Flynt is charged with first degree murder and domestic assault and battery by strangulation. A man in Jennifer Crawford's home was in the house at the time of the shooting but was not injured.
