Students at Bishop Kelley High School read a book that inspired them to do something big for Oklahoma troops. They're sending 100,000 postcards to military members stationed in the Middle East.

Determined faces, furrowed brows, sore fingers.

"When I'm writing my hand just turns numb but it's worth it," said Mary Kris Revard, Bishop Kelley sophomore.

Because these are notes of thanks, prayer and love -- for Oklahoma's brave troops.

"Just to make it easier for them, especially at Christmastime," said Katie Kientz, Bishop Kelley junior.

It's a project inspired by a book every student read called "Once Upon A Town," set in Nebraska during World War Two.

"It's all about the story of a town the size of about 12,000 people feeding 6 million troops," explained Max Sanders, Bishop Kelley junior.

"When the train stopped, the people would all bring out cakes and cards," Kientz said.

"That was an impossible goal but they did it," Revard said.

Students brainstormed their own impossible goal and came up with sending 100,000 holiday cards to our troops.

"There's a little note. When we first started this project it actually said, 'You are here,'" Sanders said.

It sounded really hard, but ever so slowly the pile grew as students found the project rewarding. Katie Kientz's parents both served during the first Gulf War.

"My dad was just really proud of this project. He said he was so happy to get letters when he was overseas even if it was just from a random person he had no connection with, he was really happy to get letters," she said.

Blue Star Moms will mail the cards along with care packages.

"When we get the 100,000th card we are going to be so happy. And we're going to be really glad that we could do it and it made such a difference," Kientz said.

Knowing their words, a Biblical verse, even a cute drawing will put a smile on someone's face... half a world away.
