City Of Tulsa Food Drive To Benefit Food Bank

The City of Tulsa has joined forces with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for a holiday season food drive through Christmas Eve. The food bank is urging people to donate, based on the increased need they're seeing.

Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett, joined by members of the incoming City Council, announced that 30 Tulsa Fire stations and all Reasor's grocery stores would be drop off points for donations. 

The George Kaiser Family Foundation announced a $250,000 donation, including a $100,000 matching grant for the Food Bank to assist the effort. Phil Lakin, an incoming city councilor and head of the Tulsa Community Foundation, said that Nadel and Gussman Energy had contributed the first $25,000 to the matching program.

Eileen Bradshaw, the Director of the Food Bank, said 23 percent of Tulsa children live in poverty and many don't have enough to eat. The Food Bank provides meals for 70,000 people each week in eastern Oklahoma, through 450 partner agencies.
