A highway traffic sign positioned over the southbound lanes of the Tisdale Expressway at the Fairview Overpass has a spelling error.

The name Sand Springs has an extra 'S' on the sign, making it "Sands Springs."

Several viewers notified News On 6 about the misspelling early Wednesday.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says the sign has been there for almost a year and was part of the recently completed IDL improvement project.

ODOT says its a contractor error and as part of a punch list at the end of the project, the contractor will have to make a correction on the sign.

As you can see by the accompanying photo, the sign directs motorists westbound to Sand Springs and Oklahoma City via I-244, U.S. Highways 412 and 64 and State Highway 51.
