Todd Graham must always have at least one suitcase packed and ready to go. The guy is NEVER in one place for very long. Does he buy his homes? Lease his cars? Borrow clothes?
He left Tulsa last year to go to Pitt. After one year, he's leaving the Panthers behind for Arizona State. Yes, being the head coach at a school in a bigger conference is enticing and I understand how he could want to try his chances in a new place, but how can ANY high school recruit in the country believe a single thing he says now?
Graham preached about loyalty and commitment while here in Tulsa. I'm sure he did the same thing in the Steel City. Now, why wouldn't he do it again in the desert?
This is something that happens everywhere. Coaches rarely stay in one place for 6-8 years. College football is just too fluid for that now.
If I'm an 18 year old kid, I'm not sure that I'm thinking about the resume of the guy in my living room so much as the type of gear that school can offer me. It's kind of the way teenagers think. Does this school wear all black uniforms!? Does NIKE supply all the clothes I need? What do the co-eds look like?
Parents, however, should be wary.
Graham's track record is that of a nomad. He left Rice after a year. He left Tulsa after a year. He left Pitt after a year. These aren't marriages but you would think that a coach could and would stick for longer than a single season. What good are contracts? HE BROKE UP WITH PITT VIA TEXT!
Can you commit to a coach anymore? NO. You have to fall in love with the school. You know, the way it should be. Pick a school because of the majors it offers and career fields it can steer you towards. Don't pick your path for the next four years based on who your head football coach will be.
It could change in 12 months.
