Snow is now falling in Cimarron County as an early winter storm pushes into the Oklahoma Panhandle.  There are reports of over an inch of snow on the ground already.

Cimarron County is the western end of the Panhandle.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Oklahoma Panhandle and a winter storm watch for five neighboring counties beginning Monday.

Between a half-foot and 16 inches of precipitation may fall on the area before the storm exits the region on Tuesday.

On Sunday, residents began preparing for the onslaught, even as temperatures climbed into the 60's. Assistant manager Amy Green said customers at the Walmart in Guymon kept employees busy with purchases of snow shovels, bread and milk.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says crews will work around the clock to clear the roads, and have about 130,000 tons of a salt and sand mixture at their disposal.

Meanwhile, in northeastern Oklahoma, most of the precipitation Monday will be in the form of rain.

Most of the snow will fall across NW Oklahoma missing NE Oklahoma.
