All year we've shared the need to feed hungry Oklahoma children. Through your generosity, we've raised more than $292,000 this year for the Food Bank's Food for Kids program.

That means 1460 more children are taking home a backpack full of food each weekend, a time when they may have little or nothing to eat.

On Monday, one Oklahoma teenager is helping the cause in a way only she can.

Fifteen-year-old Michelle Helm recently sold her steer after showing it at the Tulsa State Fair. Instead of spending her earnings on herself, Michelle decided she wanted to give every penny, $1,500, to Food for Kids.

"I could think of ways to spend it, I just decided other kids needed it more than I did," Michelle said.

"For her to realize that there is such a need for other children, like I said, it's an honor to be her parents," Michelle's mother, Sarah Helm said.

There are still countless kids who need that food to tide them over on the weekends.
