TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa-based independent energy company gave Tulsa Transit two new paratransit vans powered by compressed natural gas [CNG] Tuesday morning.

During a ceremony at 510 South Rockford, officials with Apache Corporation praised Tulsa Transit for its commitment to clean, alternative fuels such as CNG.

Apache's Central Region covers the Anadarko Basin of Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.

The Tulsa Transit Lift program provides door to door public transportation for residents with disabilities who are unable to use Tulsa Transit regular buses.

"As part of this community, Apache is always ready to help out worthy programs such as Tulsa Transit's Lift Program," said Apache Corporation Central Region Vice President Rob Johnston. "And as a strong supporter of compressed natural gas as an alternative fuel, the donation of the two CNG-powered vans was especially gratifying."

The donated vans were decorated in vivid graphic designs depicting the ecologically friendly nature of compressed natural gas by graphic arts students at Tulsa Technology Center.

Sign It, a sign company based in Sand Springs, offered its facility for the vehicle "wraps" and oversaw the students' work.
