Oklahoma City Police arrested a 46-year-old man on a complaint of caretaker abuse after finding the man's 80-pound mother with what appeared to be a broken bone and bedsores.

Police conducted a welfare check on the woman on Christmas Eve after receiving a tip she had a broken leg or ankle, and her son was not taking care of her.

Police went to the home in the 5800 block of N.W. 31st Terrace, and Carlton Leroy Nault answered the door. Officers asked to come inside and speak to his mother, but Nault said they had to stay on the porch.

According to the police report, officers could see inside the house and observed Nault's mother sitting in a recliner. They told Nault they had to make sure she was being properly cared for.

Nault let them inside. Officers took a close look at his mother and noticed her right foot was twisted toward the ground. The leg was swollen and it appeared the shin bone was about to poke through the skin.

Officers also noted several open bedsores on her on her left leg.

Officers asked the woman about her injuries, and she said she had fallen the night before, and her son had carried her to the living room and placed on the chair. Police said in their report that although they didn't ask, the woman told them repeatedly that Nault did not touch her and he did not break her leg.

Police noted the woman appeared malnourished and weighed approximately 80 pounds. They called paramedics who rushed the woman to a hospital.

Officers then questioned Nault, who claimed his mother had fallen the night before and dragged herself to the chair. He said he found her sitting there the morning of December 24. Police said it appeared to them it would not be physically possible for the woman to move herself with those injuries.

When police asked Nault why he didn't take his mother to the hospital, he said he couldn't because he didn't have any gas money. He also said he didn't call for an ambulance because his mother told him not to.

Police arrested Nault on one complaint of caretaker abuse and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail. Police said he'd been previously arrested for striking his mother over the head with a metal pole, and for holding a knife to her throat and saying he could kill her if he wanted.

Nault also has previous felony convictions for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm.
