Cowgirls Narrowly Fall To Red Raiders, 58-53

Oklahoma State opened conference play with a five point loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls lost a tough battle against No. 13 Texas Tech Tuesday night in Lubbock as the Red Raiders came away with a 58-53 victory.

Oklahoma State trailed by eight points early in the second half but fought back and held Texas Tech to only one basket in eight minutes of play.

The Cowgirls pulled within one point with 15 seconds left to play, but two free throws by Monique Smalls gave the Red Raiders a three point lead. Casey Morris later made two free throws to seal the win.

OSU (8-2, 0-1) was led by Kendra Suttles who tallied 15 points and five rebounds. Tiffany Bias added 10 and two boards on the night.

The Cowgirls shot 32.3 percent from the field and 23.1 from three point range. They held the advantage in points in the paint, scoring 28 to Texas Tech's 22 as well as in rebounding with 43 total to the Lady Raiders 41.

Kierra Mallard had 19 points and 11 rebounds to help the Red Raiders remain undefeated on the season at 13-0 and are now 1-0 in conference play. They were helped by 19 points off the bench in the contest.

Oklahoma State will face Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
