A group of Tulsa teens is using the Martin Luther King holiday to help fight hunger. Aly Cash and Will Clary are part of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, which includes students from eight Tulsa schools.

On Friday, they collected food donated by students at various high schools including Booker T. It's just the beginning of their food drive.

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, they hope hundreds of Tulsa teens will join their effort.

"We are getting as many kids as we can to come out after the Martin Luther King parade," said student volunteer Aly Cash.

"We are collecting cans for the food bank. They're really low on food this year, so we thought it was really important," she said.

"I think it will have a big impact us talking to them rather than being told by adults that we need to volunteer," Will Clary said.

The group is asking everyone who comes to the MLK parade to bring canned food to donate. To volunteer, just go to ONEOK Field after the parade, and they'll put you to work.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Detroit and John Hope Franklin Boulevard, continuing down Greenwood Avenue to East Archer Street and North Elgin Avenue.

If you're attending the parade, bring canned food items along. You'll find several spots to donate including a truck on the parade route.
