Owasso Fire Chief Chris Garrett
OWASSO, Oklahoma -
The City of Owasso introduced its new fire chief Tuesday morning. Chris Garrett has been with the department since 2006 serving as the deputy fire chief.
He now leads a team of 53 uniformed staff.
"We have 48 in operations," he said, serving at the city's three fire stations.
Garrett's firefighting career began as a volunteer in 1976. He was hired by the city of Richmond, Virginia where he spent almost 25 years rising through the ranks.
Garrett said he received a Master of Science degree in Fire and Emergency Administration from Oklahoma State University. He has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
Garrett recently completed the four-year U.S. Fire Administration's Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Maryland.
He is married to Valerie, a special ed teacher at Stone Canyon Elementary School. The couple has five daughters and 10 grandchildren.
