A day after he accepted the offer to become the defensive coordinator for the Clemson Tigers, former Oklahoma coach Brent Venables spoke exclusively with Dean Blevins about the transition.

Venables had been with the Sooners since 1999, serving as a co-defensive coordinators and linebackers coach from 1999-2003, before becoming the sole defensive coordinator in 2004, while still coaching the linebackers.

Rumors began to circulate a week earlier, when Venables' name was first brought up in regards to a job at West Virginia with former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. After a week of rumors and differing reports, Venables pulled the trigger on the big move Wednesday evening.

The 41-year-old coach will have the task of rebuilding a Tigers' defense that ranked 71st in the nation in total defense, allowing 394.36 yards per game and 52 touchdowns during the 2011 season. However, Venables will have plenty of talent to work with, including three top-100 recruits in the 2012 recruiting class.
