Several basketball players from St. Gregory University were injured after their school bus was involved in a crash in Shawnee Saturday afternoon.
It happened just after 12 p.m. near Highway 177 and Interstate 40 in Shawnee. According to the head coach John Martin, the men's basketball team was headed to a game at Rogers State University in Claremore, when their bus struck a semi after trying to avoid a car that pulled out in front of them.
Martin said there were 14 players on the bus at the time, and about five or six players were transported to Unity Health Center in Shawnee for treatment. According to school officials, none of the injuries appear to be serious at this time.
The bus is equipped with seatbelts, but it is unknown if everyone was wearing one at the time of the crash, according to the coach.
School officials said the game against Rogers State University will be rescheduled for a later date, and the St. Gregory University women's game against RSU will take place Saturday at 3 p.m.
