LAFAYETTE, Lousiana – It didn't take long for the Tulsa softball team to bounce back from its first loss of the season with a 12-1 win over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.

With so many runs, several Golden Hurricane players were able to rack up some big statistics.

Junior shortstop Samantha Cobb reaped the benefits of it the most, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Sophomore Jill Barrett added four RBIs of her own in lifting TU to a 2-1 record after the first weekend.

"The biggest thing to take away from this weekend, is that we got better each game," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "If you take away one inning (11-run sixth vs. ULL on Saturday) from the whole weekend, we still feel pretty good. It was good to see that we were able to put away one rotten inning, which we probably hadn't seen before, and still be able to get better as the weekend went on."

The Golden Hurricane managed three runs in the first two innings, but really exploded in the third.

Despite picking up two outs to start the inning, three singles to follow them up loaded the bases.

Barrett drove in all three with a triple to left field and Cobb brought in Barrett with a two-run homer to make it 8-0 after three.

Sophomore Kalynn Shrock earned her first win of the season, allowing one earned run in five innings. Sophomore Aimee Creger came in for the final two innings to close it out.

Tulsa will hit the field again next weekend as it travels to College Station, Texas for the Aggie Classic Feb. 17-19.

TU will start play on Friday with a 10 a.m. game against UTSA and a 5:15 p.m. matchup against No. 17 Texas A&M.
