Dense fog was a big problem for drivers across north central and northeastern Oklahoma Tuesday morning.

A News On 6 viewer sent us video of a multi-vehicle crash about a mile north of Cleveland.  It happened just before 8 a.m. on Highway 99 over the Arkansas River along the Pawnee/Osage County line.

The viewer, Kimberly Johnson, said her husband Jeremiah was in the red Neon. He has a gash on his forehead and a very sore back. Johnson said her husband had just dropped their kids off at school 10 minutes before this happened.

There were 12 vehicles in total involved in the chain collision wreck, according to Lieutenant George Brown with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

There were other minor injuries though Brown said no one was admitted to the hospital.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it responded to 16 collisions in and around the Tulsa area Tuesday morning.  Troopers say one person was transported by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital after being injured in a crash.

The Owasso Police Department says Highway 169 between 96th Street North and 126th Street North was iced up Tuesday morning.

"A series of collisions and vehicles losing control kept Owasso police busy for hours," said Sergeant Nick Boatman, Public Information Officer for the Owasso Police Department.

The highway was so bad that officers blocked the overpass crossing 106th Street North. Since visibility was so poor, other patrol cars lined the road in warning until ODOT crews were able to sand the bridge.

The Owasso Police Department responded to six crashes between 6 and 9 a.m., five on the affected area of Highway 169, he said. There were also several vehicles that spun off the highway but caused no damage.

Injuries were reported in only one of those collisions, but the victim was not taken to the hospital, Boatman said.

Officers asked drivers to use extreme caution or an alternate route as Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews treated the roadway.

OHP troopers says the biggest problem was drivers going too fast and losing control of their vehicles on icy bridges.

The National Weather Service says northeast Oklahoma residents were under either a freezing fog advisory or dense fog advisory.

AAA Oklahoma says when driving in fog you should first slow down. Also use your low-beam headlights or fog lights and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
