STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Baseball is a nine-inning sport, but it only took Cal Poly two innings to do all of its damage against Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys opened up the 2012 season with a rough 6-0 loss on the road in San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Friday night.

While OSU managed only two hits in the entire game, Cal Poly started its damage in the third inning.

The Mustangs got two on base thanks to a walk and an ensuing error from the Cowboys.

They followed it up with a pair of singles to get on the board first, and a passed ball later in the inning drove home another Cal Poly run to make it 2-0.

From there, both teams' offenses froze, going four straight innings with no scoring.

But in the eighth inning, the Mustangs began to pile it on. A bases-loaded single from Jimmy Allen brought home two more runs to get things going.

Then after an OSU balk, Ryan Drobny of the Mustangs doubled to bring home Allen and catcher Chris Hoo for a 6-0 lead.

Cowboy pitcher Andrew Heaney picked up the loss, throwing seven innings and giving up four hits and one earned run.

Joey Wagman got the win for Cal Poly as the Mustangs racked up eight hits.

OSU (0-1) will try again on Saturday with an 8 p.m. road matchup against the Mustangs.
