TULSA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A generous donation from the Sooner state's largest tribe will help educate children here in Green Country.

The Cherokee Nation handed out over $3 million Monday to 14 northeast Oklahoma schools as part of Public School Appreciation Day.

Chief Bill John Baker says a lot of schools are struggling right now, and the Cherokee Nation's happy to give back to the community.

"We're good partners, and we pass the money around, and they educate our kids and we try to help them every opportunity we get," said Cherokee Principal Chief Bill John Baker.

Since 2002, the Cherokee Nation has donated nearly $25 million to schools within their jurisdiction.
