A Taste of Spring

Posted: Updated:

I'll keep the discussion brief today.

A very nice afternoon is expected with highs in the lower to mid-60s along with sunny conditions.  Spring like weather will remain through tomorrow with highs moving into the lower 70s by Wednesday afternoon.

The cold front moved across the area right on schedule late yesterday with a line of thunderstorms producing 40 to 50 MPH winds near the Tulsa area along with some light to moderate rain. The storms weakened as they moved east of the 69-75 corridors. The storms were stronger west of Tulsa where a narrow axis of instability was maximized with the strong shear of the system.  A fatality was reported near the Ada area where a mobile home was reportedly destroyed by a storm.  Some 50 to near 70 mph wind gusts were reported near and west of OKC as the storms formed and moved over the central OK area around 4pm Monday afternoon.

We should be in great shape today and tomorrow with mostly sunny skies and high temps well above the seasonal average.   The next system will arrive late Thursday night or Friday morning with another seasonal cool down that will bring our highs back down into the upper 49s.  No precipitation is expected.

The weekend continues to offer more flipping in the model data.   The GFS offers another boundary Sunday that would push low level moisture to the southeast of the region, while the EURO would keep Sunday with south winds and bring a chance of showers and storms to the region Monday.  At this point, we can't really hang the hat on any one solution so we'll use a blended approach and introduce a slight chance of showers or storms for the Monday period.  Additional changes to the Sunday and Monday time period will be likely as the confidence for this period remains low.
