NORMAN, Oklahoma – It's every freshman's dream to have a huge first game in front of his home crowd.

And catcher Hunter Lockwood did just that in a 9-6 Sooner victory over Hartford in their home opener Friday.

Lockwood had two homers in the contest to help boost Oklahoma back to 2-2 overall on the season.

OU managed a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to get out to a 2-0 lead. After the Hawks rallied back to tie it up in the third, Lockwood came through with his first shot of the day, a two-run home run to put the Sooners back up 4-2.

From there, the Sooners controlled the tempo, scoring at least one run in six of their nine innings.

Dillon Overton got the start for OU and threw 6.1 innings, giving up four runs and eight hits and striking out seven.

The second game of the three-game series will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
