NORMAN, Oklahoma – Sunday afternoon was mostly bad news for the Sooners, but at least there was a silver lining.

The Sooners went into their Senior Day on Sunday looking to wrap up the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament, but instead picked up an 83-77 loss.

The loss moved the Sooners into a tie with Texas A&M for second in the Big 12 standings rather than having sole possession.

OU and A&M's tiebreakers remarkably went all the way through the first four steps: head-to-head, record vs. all other Big 12 opponents, conference road records and road records vs. all similar conference opponents.

The rare occurrence resulted in the Big 12 office resorting to the final step in the lengthy tiebreaker process: drawing teams out of a hat.

OU got the benefit of the draw and will still receive the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament.

In the Senior Day game, however, things didn't go quite as smoothly as KU hit a season-high eight 3-pointers to stop the Sooners in their season finale.

"Kansas averages three 3's a game, I believe," OU coach Sherri Coale said. "The way we defended them was according to the way they've played. I think that strategy was correct."

Oklahoma had one senior – Jelena Cerina – who scored six points in her final home game. But the Sooners' Senior Day festivities came after the game rather than before and the celebration was tamed by the tough loss.

"I thought Kansas played incredibly inspired and we didn't," Coale said. "We were as flat as could be. We knew what was on the line, we knew what was at stake and I can't explain it. I wish I could."

OU will get to watch the opening round of Big 12 tournament play on Wednesday before starting its first game on Thursday. The Sooners will take on the winner of 7-seed Oklahoma State and 10-seed Missouri.
