A maintenance worker for Remington Park in Oklahoma City was killed in a tragic accident over the weekend, according to Remington Park officials.

Mike Priddy, 24, died Sunday night from injuries he sustained in an accident at the track Sunday afternoon.

According to park officials, Priddy was about 300 yards behind the starting gate when one of the horses from Race 4 bolted from the starting gate. The horse ran toward the track gate that leads to the barn area. Priddy had just closed the gate and was trying to prevent the horse from escaping the track when he was hit by the gate as the horse crashed through it.

Priddy was transported to OU Health Sciences Center, where he died several hours later from internal injuries.

"Michael Priddy was a loyal, hardworking young man who was very proud of his job here and that pride showed in the way he did his job every day," said Remington Park General Manager, Scott Wells. "Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones."

Remington Park officials say the horse involved in the accident, Jimi Jive, suffered only minor injuries.

Wells says Priddy had worked for Remington Park for about a year. Funeral service arrangements are still pending for Priddy, who leaves behind a nine year-old-daughter.
