Norman Police Rule Shooting Of 10-Year-Old Girl An Accident

Norman police said the girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head from a .22 caliber bullet on March 7. She remains in critical condition.

UPDATE: As of March 19, the 10-year-old Norman girl shot remains in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. Norman police say the investigation is complete and have ruled the shooting an accident. No charges will be filed.

A 10-year-old Norman girl is in critical condition following a shooting inside a Norman home late Wednesday afternoon.

Norman police said the girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head from a .22 caliber bullet. It happened at a rural Norman home located at 5610 120th Avenue S.E. around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. The victim was currently living in the home as a guest. The shooter is identified as a 14-year-old boy, who was a relative of the victim.

Police believe the shooting was an unfortunate accident. However, detectives have not made that final determination yet as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
