Cowgirls Use Extra Inning To Top Wichita State

The Cowgirl softball team used an extra inning Tuesday night to top Wichita State 2-1, notching OSU's fifth-straight win.

Kelsey Anchors led off the bottom of the eighth with a bunt to put her on first before she swiftly stole second. Tamara Brown's sacrifice bunt advanced Anchors to third with one out. Senior Julie Ward stepped to the plate and smacked a single to second base that WSU bobbled in error which allowed Anchors to score and give the Cowgirls the 2-1 victory.

The Cowgirls were paced by Brown who tallied two hits on the night while Simone Freeman and Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Kat Espinosa got down to business inside the circle.

Freeman went four innings allowing one run and two hits while tallying four strikeouts. Espinosa came in relief of freeman in the top of the fifth and went on to register five strikeouts in four innings while allowing two hits.

Ari Morrison's triple plated the other run for Oklahoma State in the bottom of the first.

The Shockers lone run came in the top of the sixth as Sydney Stuever hit a single that got past OSU on the left side to score Rachel Milnark from third.

Earlier in the day, Espinosa was named the Big 12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the second such honor of her career.

Espinosa, a junior from Houston, threw her second no-hitter of the season and the third of her career on Friday against Nebraska, helping her team to a 2-0 win. She gave up one walk in the game, keeping her from a perfect game.

She also had an impressive game on Wednesday against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, throwing four scoreless innings of relief in a win.

The Cowgirls will be back in action Friday as play in the Gaucho Classic II begins from Santa Barbara, California. OSU will play a double-header that night with the first game slated for 3:45 p.m. against San Jose State.
