TULSA, Oklahoma -

Police have found the car taken from the home that was the scene of a brutal home invasion on Wednesday.

Police found the car outside a house in the 5700 block of East Easton Street in Tulsa Thursday. Officers say a citizen recognized the car and called 911, then followed the car to the home.

"They indicated that they believe the driver knew that he was being followed," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.

There were five people in the car when the citizen started following it; three males, one female and one child.  Police have taken the adults into custody for questioning.

"When officers got here, the one female and small child were still in the vehicle. We got them out of there. We also got the males out of the duplex," Ashley said.

Police say the 2001 Plymouth Neon was taken from the home of Bob and Nancy Strait in the 3300 block of East Virgin Street.  A family member went to visit the couple Wednesday and discovered the door had been kicked and the couple badly beaten.  Bob Strait is 90, his wife is 85.

"You seem to think you've seen it all and nothing can top what you saw two days ago or two years ago. This is one of those incidents where, man I haven't seen it all. It's disheartening when you see an individual would treat elderly members of our society like this," Ashley said.

Although officers are not sure if the people who were in the stolen car are involved in the assault, they are thankful the Crime Stoppers system worked.

"We need citizens. The eyes and the ears of the citizens to solve a lot of crimes. There's a lot of times we're not there. Most of the time we won't be there when a crime happens so we need citizens to be observant to look out and pass some information on when they get it," Ashley said.

At last report both Straits were in critical condition.
