Bigger story? Saints or Tebow?

Posted: Updated:

What's a bigger story today out of the NFL?

1) The New Orleans Saints getting hit with MEGA fines for the "bounty" plots they employed?

2) Tim Tebow getting traded, then perhaps Untraded, to the NY Jets?

Both are pretty intriguing to me. The Saints players paying out different "bounties" to knock opponents out of the game? That's crazy. It may also be pretty common but NOLA is the only team that has been busted for it to date. I obviously never played pro sports but I can totally see a scenario where pro athletes with lots of money and a competitive streak might want to put a little cash on the line each Sunday to spice things up a bit on the field.

But, can you imagine if Tim Tebow ultimately ended up in New York City? Playing for the JETS? The team that has been the ‘little sisters' in that town for YEARS behind the Giants? The team that has the pretty-boy, Hollywood, Joe Cool QB in Mark Sanchez (who, by the way, just signed a HUGE new contract)?

New York writers would have a field day with Tim. There would be cracks about his outward displays of faith. His cockiness. His humility. His goody-two-shoes demeanor.

There would also be writers and media calling for him to start over Sanchez. The minute Mark throws the first interception of the year, the Tim Tebow chatter will reach deafening levels. After all, he did lead his team to the playoffs as a rookie last season.

Did people get tired of hearing all of the Linsanity? Tebow-sanity will be like Jeremy Lin (NY Knicks PG) times 1,000 in NYC. It will be OUT. OF. CONTROL.

The Saints got busted and their head coach was suspended for the entire year. The league also fined the Saints $500,000 and took away their 2012 and 2013 second-round draft picks. More penalties could be coming there. They could be in bad shape.

As big as that is, I think the bigger deal is Tebow. He's polarizing and moves the meter with EVERY demographic. People either love him or hate him for a plethora of reasons. Right or wrong, that's the kind of lightning rod player/person he is.

That being said, he may or may not even end up in NYC. That's all being worked out. Either way, if he GOES BACK to Denver after they clearly tried to trade him… that's still going to be a fascinating twist.

What do you think is a bigger story? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Comment below.
