Alcohol May Be To Blame For Jeep Crash In McIntosh County

Ronald Lynn Phipps of Quinton was flown to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.

An alcohol-related, one-vehicle collision sent a Quinton man to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday evening, authorities said.

According to the Highway Patrol, Ronald Lynn Phipps, 57, was eastbound on Highway 9 at about 8 p.m. when his 2005 Jeep Wrangler left the roadway and struck a tree.

Phipps was flown to St. Francis Hospital with arm, leg, head and internal and external trunk injuries.

The wreck happened about 4 miles west of Vivian in McIntosh County.

The investigating trooper reported an odor of alcohol on the driver.
