Human Remains Found In Payne County Identified As Missing Man

According to the Payne County Sheriff's Office, the remains are identified as John Whitmore, who was reported missing back in October of 2011.

Police have identified human remains discovered in Payne County. According to the Payne County Sheriff's Office, the remains are identified as John Whitmore.

A silver alert was issued for Whitmore back in October of 2011. His family told police the 96-year-old man had wandered away from his home in Coyle. Deputies say Whitmore had dementia and a history of becoming confused.

On March 24, the Payne County Sheriff's Office received a call about possible human remains being found in the area of 116th Street and Coyle Road. Payne County Deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene and were taken to an area approximately 150 yards into the woods.

Investigators were able to locate the human remains and have confirmed they are that of Whitmore.
