Imagine walking into a room and not being sure if you've been there before. Your surroundings may seem familiar yet very strange at the same time.
That's the reality for Alzheimer's patients, and a Tulsa memory care facility will give caregivers and other interested people a chance to experience it first hand.
"Through the Alzheimer's Looking Glass" is a virtual dementia experience that gives families the chance to walk in the shoes of someone who suffers from dementia.
It's an interactive, sensory experience that replicates how the brains of Alzheimer's patients work, according to Autumn Leaves co-founder Jane Anderson, R.N.
The tour lasts about 15 minutes and will be free to the public from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Autumn Leaves, 7807 S. Mingo Road.
In addition to the virtual experience, Anderson will make a presentation on communication techniques caregivers can use to best communicate with dementia patients.
