Mr. Murph, the recycling mascot for American Waste Control has made it to the championship for Waste and Recycling News Mascot Madness contest.

The name, Mr. Murph is taken from the multi-million dollar Materials Recovery Facility which opened in March 2011 in North Tulsa.

Voting is currently underway and pits favorite waste management mascots nationwide against one another in head to head competition.

His competitor is Paulie G. Waste for Great Waste and Recycling Services in Opa Locka, Florida.

"We're so honored by the many votes from our fans to make Mr. Murph one of North America's favorite mascots," said Tom Hill, CEO of TRT, American Environmental Landfill and American Waste Control. "I think we have a great chance of winning this whole competition so I want to encourage all our fans to go online and vote for us so we can bring home the gold."

Hill is encouraging Tulsans to go online and vote for Mr. Murph.

"We have some tough competition but we know we'll make Tulsa proud by showing North America who the best mascot is," said Hill. "If there's something I feel confident about it's the fans who love our Mr. Murph and will go online to support him."

Voting ends Friday April 6, 2012.
