Oklahoma State Tops Jackson State In Extras

The Cowgirls capitalized on late mistakes from Jackson State to come away with a win.

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls avoided losing back-to-back games Wednesday by topping Jackson State 2-1 in seven innings, thanks to an error from the Tigers.

After trading runs in the opening inning, the game settled into a pitcher's duel, with six scoreless innings forcing the extra frame. In the bottom of the seventh, Chelsea Garcia hit a leadoff single and stole second, moving into scoring position with no outs on the board.

Two at-bats later, Gessenia DeLaCruz reached on a fielding error, allowing Garcia to come home and win the game for the Cowgirls.

Simone Freeman got the start for the Cowgirls, giving up just one earned run on three hits, striking out seven in her five innings of service, but came away without a decision. Kat Espinosa (10-7) was credited with a win for OSU, giving not allowing a hit in her two innings, striking out a pair of Jackson State batters.

Breea Jamerson (13-6) was credited with a loss for her service, giving up two earned runs on four hits in 6.1 innings pitched.

OSU will take a week off before getting back in action, taking on rival Oklahoma Sooners at 7 p.m. April 11.
