Members of a north Tulsa community came together Friday night to try to make sense of an apparent random shooting that killed three people and wounded two others.

A woman and two men were shot overnight on East 51st Place North. All these shootings took place within seven hours, and the victims range in age from 31 to 54.

The NAACP hosted a meeting at the North Peoria church of Christ. The meeting was closed to the media.

Community members say they are not going sit around and wait for the shooter to claim another victim.

NAACP President Dr. Warren Blakeny said the community is on edge. He is urging everyone to be aware of their surroundings this weekend.

"When you can come into a community and shoot 3 people and kill them and 5 people all together, yes the community is on edge," Blakeny said. "They want this man found."

Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson – who represents the neighborhood – has assured residents that city leaders and police are taking the matter very seriously.

"I want the community to know that we the city are not going to look at this as something that just happened," Henderson said. "Three people lost their lives, other people were injured. Now we have people afraid to even go outside of their homes. That's not a good environment."

Dr. Blakeny wants to urge people to not take matters into your own hands, if you do see someone suspicious call police.
