Woodward Man Blown Away From His Home As Deadly Tornado Hit

WOODWARD, Oklahoma -- As Oklahomans sort through the pieces, we're hearing more survival stories coming out of Woodward.

Six people died in Sunday morning's tornado, but countless others rode out the storm and lived to tell about it.

Thirty-three-year-old Jason Packs was asleep on his couch when Sunday's tornado hit. Next door neighbor Caleb Alexander and his roommate, a Woodward police officer, found Packs in the rubble.

"We were like ‘are you okay?' and he said ‘yeah.' And we were like ‘where were you? Did you not go to a shelter?' And he said ‘I think I fell asleep on my couch,'" Alexander said.

Packs' mother Debbie Hunter hates the fact her son frequently never makes it to bed. As it turns out, Packs' bachelor-esque bad habit may have saved his life.

"This is one time I'm so glad he didn't listen to me," Debbie Hunter said.

"I just can't believe it. But I guess I'm just lucky to be alive," Packs said.

When Jason Packs realized what had happened, he didn't dwell on it. Instead, he joined others who walked around neighborhood to see if other people were okay.
