OSU Cowgirls Blow By Tulsa 8-3

Oklahoma State's Ari Morrison went 3-for-3 scoring two runs for the Cowgirls who extended its win streak to four games.

Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to four straight games Wednesday night with an 8-3 win over in-state rival Tulsa.

OSU's Ari Morrison went 3-for-3 on the night scoring two runs while Tulsa was paced by Jill Barrett who was 3-for-4 with two RBI, extending her hitting streak to a school-record 21 games.

TU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Cierra Hughes scored on a base hit by Jill Barrett off Cowgirl starter Simone Freeman.

The Cowgirls knotted the score in the bottom of the inning. Morrison led off with an infield single, and one out later, scored off Kelsey Anchors double. Later, Julie Ward connected for a base hit up the middle, plating Anchors from second to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, Oklahoma State added another run this time while there were two outs, Morrison hit another infield single to score Amy Graham from second.

TU manufactured two runs in the fifth to tie the score at 3-3. Bowen led off with a single up the middle and was sacrificed to second by Hughes. Everett singled to second base, stole second, and a wild pitch allowed Bowen to score and Everett to advance to third. Barrett then drove a base hit up the middle to score Everett.

The Cowgirls poured it on in the sixth scoring five runs on three hits and four walks including back-to-back bases-loaded walks issued to Tamara Brown and Ward.

The Cowgirls improve to 22-16 on the year while the Golden Hurricane falls to 30-10 overall.

Kat Espinosa came on in relief in the sixth inning and picked up the victory, improving to 13-8 on the season. OSU starter Simone Freeman pitched 5.0 innings and struck out seven, allowing five hits and three runs.

Tulsa center fielder Caitlin Everett was 3-for-4 with a run, catcher Cassidy Bowen singled and scored, and left fielder Cierra Hughes walked a scored a run for TU.

Lacey Middlebrooks (13-4) pitched 5.2 innings and struck out six for the Golden Hurricane while allowing seven earned runs and eight walks.

Oklahoma State (22-16) will travel to Austin for a three-game series with the No. 5 Texas Longhorns. The first game is scheduled for 5 pm on Friday evening.

Tulsa hosts Houston starting Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
