Beautiful Weekend!

If it seems like our day is getting off to a cool start, it certainly is. Notice the low temperature map on the right courtesy of the OK Mesonet. Jay in NE OK was barely above freezing with a low of 33 degrees. As the day wears on, lots of sunshine and light winds will allow for a nice rebound with afternoon highs well into the 60s to near 70. In fact, with a weak high pressure ridge sitting right over us, our winds will be light and variable in direction for much of the day, eventually becoming light southerly by late afternoon.

By early Sunday morning, a re-enforcing surge of cool air will be arriving shifting our winds back to a northerly direction and increasing the wind speed to 10-25 mph during the day. Despite lots of sunshine, temperatures will likely stay in the 60s for the afternoon after starting off in the mid-upper 40s first thing in the morning. The bottom line is that we will have a beautiful but cool weekend.

Monday will also get off to a cool start with morning lows in the lower 40s and possibly even some upper 30s in the normally cooler valley locations. A light N wind and lots of sunshine should result in afternoon temperatures rebounding to near 70.

After that, warmer weather will prevail for the rest of the week as brisk southerly winds will be kicking in on Tuesday. After a morning low in the mid-upper 40s, Tuesday afternoon should be well into the 70s to near 80 along with lots of sunshine.

Wednesday will be warmer yet with morning lows in the 50s to near 60 and daytime highs near 80 under partly cloudy skies and with a south wind. However, the flow aloft will be pushing a weak frontal boundary to near the OK/KS state line that night which will stall out in the general vicinity for the latter part of the week. This will result in more cloud cover and chances of showers and storms beginning Wed night and for at least the next few days after that. Right now, it does not appear to be an overly active period as we are keeping the chances in the slight category. With the extra cloud cover, daytime highs should level out around the 80 degree mark for the latter part of the week and overnight lows around 60.
