Oral Roberts Caps Off Season Sweep Over Western Illinois

The Golden Eagles held a slim lead late, but blew the game open in the final two innings to run-rule the Leathernecks.

Big numbers in the seventh and eighth innings put the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles ahead 16-6, ending the game early and sending ORU to a series sweep over the Western Illinois Leathernecks Sunday.

Leading 8-6 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs on the board and runners on first and second, Kevin Cho singled to left field to bring Nate Goro and Brandon King home to take a 10-6 lead. Cam Schiller followed with a single to center field to bring Logan Domenico home to push their lead to five runs.

Oral Roberts continued their scoring in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a leadoff home run from Jared Schlehuber to double-up the Leathernecks.

Two at-bats later with runners on second and third, Chris Williams singled to right field to bring King home to take a 13-6 advantage. Goro reached on a fielder's choice to bring Bennett Pickar home to push their lead to eight runs.

Two batters later, Cho singled to third base bringing Williams home to take an eight-run lead and keep the bases loaded. Schiller was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat bringing Goro home and bringing the game to an end with a 10-run advantage.

Dan Martony (4-0) remained undefeated on the season, picking up a win for his 1.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits. Dustin Hunter (3-3) received a loss, giving up five earned runs on five hits in four innings.

Oral Roberts will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against the Arkansas Razorbacks, before a weekend series against South Dakota State.
