OU's Austin Woods Battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Oklahoma Sooners' sophomore offensive lineman Austin Woods announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma four days earlier and has begun treatment at the OU Stephenson Cancer Center.

According to the National Library of Medicine, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is an affliction of the lymph tissue, found in the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow and several other sites in the body. Stage III of the disease, which there are four, progressively more severe stages, can be treated with chemotherapy alone or a combination chemotherapy and radiation.

Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a form of cancer, but is considered to be one of the more treatable forms of the disease.

In his first two seasons at OU, Woods served as the primary deep snapper on place kicks and also played spot duty on the offensive line in four games during the 2011 season.
